Dre’Mont Jones, DT, Ohio State
Dre’Mont Jones is a pass rushing defensive tackle. He has a lot of pass rushing moves for a defensive interior player. Jones is athletic and features a spin move. I think he has quick feet for a defensive tackle. He did show some things as a run defender. He drew double teams and that is a huge accomplishment considering for a lot of 2017 he was playing alongside Nick Bosa. He also has a great motor.
The downside is that Jones would often get overpowered by offensive linemen and that is not a welcome sight for a guy that is being considered for the first round. One of his problems is that he looks a little undersized on tape. He needs to develop a stronger core to become a starter in the NFL. He also needs to work on his cadence.
I put Jones as a third rounder even though he is being talked about as a first rounder. He needs to develop more power to start in the NFL. A team can’t risk picking a guy who gets overpowered in the first round. There is some talent and pass rushing ability that teams will like on day two. I see his position fit as either a 3-4 defensive end or as 4-3 defensive tackle. He might fit best on a team that just wants to use him on pass rushing downs to start his career.
