Al Jefferson is leaving the Charlotte Hornets.
The Indiana Pacers have come to terms on an agreement with veteran center Al Jefferson.
Jefferson will receive a reasonable $30 million over 3 seasons.
This move means that the Pacers believe Jefferson’s disappointing 2015-2016 season was an anomaly, rather than a sign of deteriorating skill.
Jefferson has been a consistent player throughout the course of his career, averaging 16.7 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. However, those numbers dropped to just 12.0 points and 6.4 rebounds last season.
Moving on does continue an interesting trend in Jefferson’s career. Prior to the Pacers, he’d played with 4 different NBA teams (Celtics, Timberwolves, Jazz, Hornets), staying 3 seasons with each team. This would suggest Jefferson will retire from the NBA following the 2018-2019 NBA season.
“Big Al” is an old-school, back to the basket player with a seemingly endless amount of post moves.
This is the second free agent the Hornets have lost today.
They did manage to re-sign small forward Nic Batum.
