Alec Peters (PF, Valparaiso)

Measurables: 6’9”, 6’11” wingspan, 232 lbs, 22.1 years old

Strengths

  • Excellent 3 point shooter out of pick and pop, catch and shoot – 41% 3 point for college career
  • 4 years of excellent production at Valparaiso
  • Nice dribble pull-up game as well
  • Skilled in post
  • Smart guy – no tunnel vision
  • Nice role player potential – 3 point shooter/rebounder off bench
  • Good rebounding effort
  • Uses smarts on defense
  • Drew tons of fouls with craftiness – 7.6 FTA/40, 88% FT
  • Production showed up against competition (Oregon, UK)

Weaknesses

  • Low competition level at Valpo
  • Lacks elite physical profile
  • Struggles finishing against length
  • Poor defender all around
  • Completely unable to switch on perimeter
  • Struggles to rebound against athletes
  • Will be attacked on defense in NBA

Overall

  • Peters’ production at Valparaiso over his 4 years was very impressive, and he’s a really talented shooter and scorer. However, the only thing NBA teams are really looking at him for is his 3 point shooting ability. He can be a bench power forward as a 3 point scorer, but his potential to be a defensive liability is worrisome. Still, backup stretch 4s will always be en vogue, especially with a number of teams in the 2nd round needing depth at the power forward spot.
