We look at the best players at each position
.

In honor of the MLB Network ranking the top ten players at each position in baseball, today, I will do the same, with each player’s 2016 WAR included. Note that injuries in 2016 were factored into the rankings, as were potential one-season outliers, both positive and negative, as well as a player’s time spent in the league in the case of 2016 rookies. All WAR statistics are courtesy of ESPN.com.

Breaking down the rankings, the American League has four of best positional players in the game (Altuve, Trout, Betts, and Miller) while the National League has the remaining seven. Three-quarters of the infield is made up of National League position players, while both starting pitchers call the NL their home as well. Although baseball is and always will be a team game, the amount of star power on the NL side could help explain why since the turn of the decade in 2010, the NL has gone 5-2 in the World Series, losing only in 2013 and 2015.
