Predictions for this week’s Daytona 500

Daytona 500
Previewing the upcoming Daytona 500.

The Daytona 500 is less than 10 Sundays away in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series. Soon enough well be into Speedweeks, which is a big deal for NASCAR fans as it allows them to get a first look at the upcoming season and the short offseason, that seems to last an eternity, will be over. Here’s a prediction of what driver will win The Clash, the pole, and The Daytona 500.

The Clash- Chevy will be rolling out a new body for this year’s season and while it may help keep more Chevy teams keep up with the Toyota’s, I don’t think a Chevy driver will win the Clash. I think Kevin Harvick will pull through in a Ford and leave Chevy teams concerned about their new bodies. Harvick currently has three Clash wins in his career (2009, 2010, 2013) and one more win would put him second all-time behind The Intimidator who has six. It would be Stewart-Haas Racings First Clash win.

The Pole-Martin Truex Jr. will start in the pole for the 2018 Daytona 500. Last year he qualified 5th and in 2016 posted a second place finish. He’s proven in the last couple years that he can be fast. He nearly won the race in last year if it wasn’t for running out of gas with two to go. Coming off a Championship season he will have a strong start.

The Daytona 500 winner- Now it’s time for the prediction that really matters, the winner if the race! Like usual, anything can happen in this race and anyone can win it. For most, the race can seem impossible to win and you’d be lucky to get one win in your career. Only 11 drivers have won the race multiple times. Martin Truex Jr. will win and get his first Daytona 500 victory. After a close second place finish in 2016 and a championship this past year, Truex Jr. will be ready to go. He will win from the poll but by how much can be anyone’s guess. If you’re looking for another driver to bet, you could always take Jimmy Johnson getting his third who may be motivated after everyone saying he had a disappointing last year and how he might be finished.
