Dwayne Bacon (SF/SG, Florida State)

Measurables: 6’6”, 6’10” wingspan, 221 lbs, 21.8 years old

Strengths

  • Very strong, chiseled NBA body
  • Made clear strides as a shooter from freshman to sophomore year
  • Consistent scoring output – only one game w/o double figures
  • Explosive finisher near rim
  • Good arc on 3 point shot
  • Not afraid to finish into contact around rim
  • Talented scorer off the bounce
  • Very advanced finisher through traffic

Weaknesses

  • Value stats are pretty bearish on him, even as he was on a very good team
  • Boom-or-bust as a 3 point shooter
  • Poor shot selection at times
  • Will be 22 by the time NBA season starts
  • Does not generate steals or blocks – low defensive activity level
  • Almost all of his value comes as a scorer
  • Athleticism doesn’t show up on defense as much as it does on offense
  • Doesn’t have good lateral quickness
  • Quits when he gets beat
  • Poor off-ball awareness

Overall

  • Bacon has the ability to get a bucket, but there’s not much else he can do at an NBA level. He’ll be able to be a bench guy in the league but I’m not sure there’s much else for him given his defensive deficiencies, average 3 ball, and unwillingness to create for others. He gets more interesting if his 3 pointer gets better, but for now he’s a good-but-not-great athlete who can get to the rim and sometimes knock in a 3.
