Edwin Encarnacion is now a Cleveland Indian
WE F****** DID IT! Santa, feel free to stay in the North Pole this weekend, I’m good. I honestly did not think this day would come, no matter how much sense it made.
Although I do have one friend who may need to start his own psychic business:
Edwin Encarnacion will head to Spring Training with the Tribe on a 3-year $60 million contract with an option for 4.
If they weren’t already, the Indians just became the favorites to repeat as AL Champions and look 6 hours down 90W to Chicago for the same World Series opponent they saw in 2016. Baseball is a crazy game, especially come playoff time, but if the Cubs and Indians stay healthy in 2017 there is no reason to think that we won’t get to see them toe rubbers at Wrigley and the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario once more.
Edwin Encarnacion adds the right-handed bat the Indians have been in search of since seemingly the turn of the millennium. He is the only player in Major League Baseball to hit 30 HRs in each of the last 5 seasons, including 42 last year. In those 5 seasons he had over 100 RBIs in 4 of them, and 98 the other. To put it simply, this dude can absolutely MASH.
The other reason this is such a key signing is that no longer can pitchers avoid throwing good balls to Santana, Kipnis, and Lindor in hopes of getting to the bottom of the order. With a (hopefully) healthy Michael Brantley this line-up is a sight to behold:
Couple that with a starting rotation that shakes out as Kluber, Carrasco, Salazar, Bauer, and Tomlin, and a bullpen still anchored by Andrew Miller and Cody Allen, and you have arguably the scariest team in baseball.
Finally, my apologies for every bad thing I have said about the Dolan family and their wallets. A sincere thank you goes out to you for paying EE and giving us a legitimate shot to cry happy tears instead of sad ones this November.
Redemption tour starts tonight, LET’S GO!
