Ish Smith leaves Philly for the Motor City.
The Detroit Pistons came out aggressively in free agency, quickly landing point guard Ish Smith.
Smith signs a three-year, $18 million dollar deal with the Pistons.
The soon-to-be 28-year-old point guard had a career-year in 2015-2016, averaging 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game over 50 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. He shot 40.5% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range.
Smith will go into training camp as the backup to starter Reggie Jackson.
The 76ers acquired Smith from the New Orleans Pelicans for a pair of second-round picks in December. Smith also played for the 76ers during the 2014-2015 season. Overall, he’s played for nine NBA teams since entering the NBA as an undrafted free agent with the Rockets in 2010-2011.
For his career, Smith is averaging 5.8 points and 3.3 assists per game.
Smith claims that he never heard from the 76ers this offseason regarding his future with the team.
