The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that 76ers center Joel Embiid will have a second surgery on his foot, following a set-back in the healing process discovered last month.

The team is reportedly deciding between Embiid having the operation in North Carolina or the New York Hospital of Special Surgery.

There doesn’t seem to any consensus opinion on the likely result of this additional operation.  Opinions seem to range from very optimistic (citing the success Zydrunas Ilgauskas had with his navicular bone following bone-graft surgery), to middle of the road, to genuinely concerned about the talented bigman’s future in basketball.

So there you have it, a second surgery is apparently happening.

And Joel Embiid will once again sit on the sidelines for the 76ers all season long.

Now we wait to see what GM Sam Hinkie says when he addresses this in the inevitable press conference.
