Kadeem Allen (PG, Arizona)

Measurables: 6’2”, 6’9” wingspan, 192 lbs, 24.3 years old

Strengths

  • Just a real bulldog on defense, strong and long
  • 43% from 3 point range this season
  • Defensive metrics back up the tape – legit defender
  • Created a lot of his looks inside the arc himself
  • Great lateral quickness
  • Plays defense with his arms up, uses wingspan to play big
  • Strong base allows him to stop drivers
  • Doesn’t give up when he gets beat, works to recover
  • Gets 3-point shot off very quickly, good elevation

Weaknesses

  • One of the oldest guys in the draft
  • Doesn’t offer a lot inside the arc on offense
  • Not much of an assist man – more of an off-ball PG
  • Higher TOV% than AST% – red flag for PG prospect
  • 55% finishing at rim
  • Sometimes struggles to get through screens
  • Can get beat by quick guards when closing out
  • Probably won’t see much more growth to his game
  • Needs to play next to ball dominant 2

Overall

  • At 24, Allen has an uphill battle when it comes to getting drafted, but he’s got defined skills and a clear-cut role for what he can be at the NBA level. He compares very favorably to Patrick Beverley as an off-ball PG who can knock down open shots and defend like a madman. Allen is a defensive beast and his 3 point shot looks legit. He’s got little upside, but Malcolm Brogdon showed last season that 24-year-old rookies can still play valuable roles if they can play to their strengths. Allen has the ability to do that right away.
