Kobi Simmons (SG, Arizona)

Measurables: 6’4”, 6’6” wingspan, 166 lbs, 19.9 years old

Strengths

  • Fluid athlete, does a good job getting into lane
  • Has great size for a combo guard prospect
  • Nice floater game around rim
  • Nice vision with passing
  • Creative passer in traffic
  • Aggressive in transition
  • Has a lot of on-ball defensive promise when he’s motivated
  • Solid FT shooter – 77%
  • Showed flashes in combine 5 on 5 as a scorer

Weaknesses

  • Very much a boom-or-bust bench player
  • Shot below 40% on the year
  • Doesn’t always look for others
  • PER of 12.9
  • Flicks on jumper, doesn’t have high release point
  • Overly confident in himself sometimes
  • Poor efficiency numbers at every level
  • Struggled to convert even as many of his shots were created by others
  • Not really a team player – mostly just a bench scorer
  • Extremely thin – needs to add a ton of strength
  • Effort level and IQ need to improve on D

Overall

  • While he’s flashed ability as a microwave scorer, Simmons should probably return to Arizona for another season so he can show scouts a more polished game. He showed flashes in his freshman season but he really needs to improve his consistency going forward. As a defender he has some upside but needs to be smarter and more consistently engaged. He’s very thin at this point and needs to add a ton of weight to his frame – 166 at 6’4” is frighteningly skinny. Another year in school would do him good, as he risks going undrafted if he stays in.
