A look at the Liga MX: Semifinals
The quarterfinals round in the Liga MX Playoffs have passed and now the eight teams have been reduced to four. Many good games were played, but four teams have not made it. Club Tijuana and Monarcas Morelia played each other in the quarterfinals. In the first leg, Morelia got some hope as they won it 1-0 against Tijuana. But in the second leg of the quarterfinals, Tijuana rallied and won 2-0, winning the series with an aggregate score of 2-1.
Tigres UANL played Monterrey, their fierce rivals, in the quarterfinals. In the first leg, Tigres demolished Monterrey 4-1. In the second leg, all hopes of a comeback were crushed as Tigres won it 2-0, ending the series with an aggregate score of 6-1.
Toluca and Santos Laguna faced off in the quarterfinals. Toluca won the first leg 4-1. In the second leg, Santos nearly came back with star players back from suspension and won 3-1, still losing the series with an aggregate score 5-4.
Guadalajara and Atlas, fierce rivals, faced off in the quarterfinals. Atlas won the first leg at home 1-0. Guadalajara won the second match at home 1-0. The series ended 1-1 in aggregate and Guadalajara moved on due to being higher seated at the end of the regular season.
After the quarterfinals, we now reach the semifinals. The matches have been decided. First seated Club Tijuana will play seventh seated Tigres UANL in the semifinals. Third seated Guadalajara will play fourth seated Toluca. Who will push on now that the championship is within reach? Will the Xolos win or the Tigres? Will the Chivas win or will Toluca win on their centennial? We’ll find out after this coming weekend’s action.
