Lillard and McCollum carried the Blazers over the Celtics

One mistake can lead to a loss in any moment down the stretch in a game.Just ask the Boston Celtics how an overthrown pass can change an outcome. With 59.3 seconds left in overtime and down by 1 Boston Celtics Marcus Smart threw a lob pass to All Horford that just sailed a little too high over Horford’s hands and out of bounds.

“This is a team that was a fourth or fifth seed in the playoffs last year,” he said. “They’re starting to obviously work some other guys in, but they’re healthy and they played really well today.”

The following possession Portland’s Damian Lillard drove and on a reverse layup was fouled and got the and-1 to seal the game and snap Portland’s 4-game losing streak.

Lillard finished with 28 points and 7 assists, C.J McCollum led the Trail Blazers with 35 points and Meyers Leonard added 17 off the bench in a thrilling Saturday night game in Boston.

“To have that fight in us,” Lillard said was the goal. “It would have been easy to say: `We played last night, tough loss, five o’clock game, back-to-back.’ It would have been easy to play hard, show up and let the game slip.”

Despite Isaiah Thomas‘s best efforts with 41 points and 6 assists (his 14th game this season with 30 plus points)the rest of the Boston starters didn’t crack 20 points in a tough loss at home.

Boston Celtics(26-17) next game is Tuesday night at Washington Wizards (23-20) while the Portland Trail Blazers(19-27) host the Los Angeles Lakers(16-31) on Wednesday night.
