A look at the 2017 NHL Draft

After an eventful offseason (so far), the Nation Hockey League Entry Draft is here. At 7:00 PM ET on Friday, June 23, the first round will begin and will last for 31 picks. The second through seventh rounds will take place on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00 AM ET. Without any further ado, let’s get to the mock.

  1. New Jersey Devils – Nico Hischier, C, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)

Nico is the most explosive player in the draft this year. He has 86 points in 57 games this past season and gives NJ the scoring forward they’ve needed desperately for years.2

      2. Philadelphia Flyers – Nolan Patrick, C, Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)

Nolan is the most complete player in the draft this year and the Flyers are incredibly lucky that Nolan had some injury problems this past year. With Hakstol developing youth there, watch out for this guy next year.

      3. Dallas Stars – Miro Heiskanen, D, HIFK (Sm-Liiga)

It may take a little bit of time for Miro to be NHL ready, but once he is, he could end up reminding a lot of people of Ryan Suter.

      4. Colorado Avalanche – Cale Makar, D, Brooks (AJHL)

The Avs need some help everywhere on their team, but they’ll go after some blue-line assistance this time around.

      5. Vancouver Canucks – Gabriel Vilardi, C, Windsor Spitfires (OHL)

A big center who could potentially be the scoring threat the Canucks need.
