The NHL revealed their 3 stars of the week of January 9-15th
Third Star – Brock McGinn (CAR)
Left winger Brock McGinn on the Carolina Hurricanes had a week to remember, with 7 points in 3 games played. His team went 3-0 for the week with McGinn leading the way. He scored a career-high 4 point game against the New York Islanders in which the Hurricanes won 7-4. He has only played 27 games in his career and has a total of 12 points, meaning more than half of his points came last week.
Second Star – Brad Marchand (BOS)
The Bruins’ winger scored 8 points in 3 games played. He leads his team in points for the season with 43, good enough to be tied for 7th in the league. The Bruins won two of their three matchups, one of which against Philadelphia where Marchand tied his career high in points with 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points. Marchand will play for the Atlantic Division in the 2017 NHL All-Star game next week.
First Star – Nicklas Backstrom (WAS)
While the red-hot Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to 9 games this week, Backstrom led the way offensively. He had 3 goals and 7 assists in just four games played to lead the league in points for the week with 10. The Capitals won all four of their games of course and moved to the top of the league in the standings. He has 43 points on the season and leads his team in the category. Backstrom was snubbed from the All-Star game as is the yearly tradition for the underrated forward, unfortunately.
