Villanova beat Virginia at the buzzer
The final seconds of any close basketball game are edge-of-your-seat entertainment, anything can happen, from a shot with 0.4 seconds left hitting the rim and bouncing out to a half court heave that miraculously sinks in.
With 11.5 seconds left and a tied score of 59-59 Villanova’s Josh Hart drove and missed a layup, Donte DiVincenzo ran along the baseline and with his hand outstretched tipped in the ball right as the buzzer sounded.After a brief review, the play stood and the Wildcats celebrated on center court. Villanova(20-2) avoided a two-game losing streak after dropping a game earlier last week to Marquette.The Wildcats might not stay at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 because of the loss at Marquette but shouldn’t drop more than a spot or two.
Ty Jerome led Virginia (16-4) with 15 points in an ACC-Big East matchup that felt like a tourney game from the get go.The Cavaliers snapped a five-game winning streak and have never beat a top-ranked team on the road.
Virginia’s next game is Wednesday, they host their in-state rivals Virginia Tech.
Villanova’s next game is Wednesday as well, they visit Providence.
