Patricio Garino is the latest of the Spurs international signings
The San Antonio Spurs continue to look to the international market this off-season with their latest addition, Patricio Garino.
A 6-6 small forward, Garino is playing for Argentina’s 2016 Olympic team in Rio this summer.
This move happened quickly as Garino reportedly caught the eye of Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich just last week as Argentina took on the United States men’s national team in an exhibition game.
The swingman played last season for the George Washington Colonials and helped lead the team to a 2016 National Invitation Tournament title. The win marked GW’s first ever postseason championship.
The 23-year-old averaged 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals, while shooting 51% from the field and 43% from three-point range for George Washington last year.
Garino played for Orlando’s summer league team this year averaging 2.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. The Magic elected not to sign him despite his strong performance.
