Kyler Murray

Kyler MurrayWith the college football season creeping up on us, we’ve seen a number of high profile schools name their starting quarterbacks recently.

The Oklahoma Sooners surprisingly named Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield as their starter, ahead of incumbent Trevor Knight.  As both players are juniors, I would expect to start hearing Trevor Knight transfer rumors.

Texas A&M announced that sophomore Kyle Allen has held off freshman hot-shot prospect Kyler Murray and will remain the team’s starting quarterback.  Allen played in 9 and started the final 5 games of the 2014 season for the Aggies.  Once again, if Allen excels to start the season, expect to hear talk that Murray is looking for a place to start next season.  Murray was a ESPN.com’s #13 overall recruit and #1 dual-threat quarterback prospect coming out of high school.

The University of Kansas has named Montell Cozart it’s starter following the ACL injury suffered by Michael Cummings.  Cozart started the first 5 games of last season before Cummings took his spot and started the final 7.

Finally, Boise State confirmed that Ryan Finley will be the team’s starting quarterback this season.  Finley was the team’s #2 quarterback last season and was expected to be the team’s starter coming into the season, but that was put in jeopardy by off-the-field alcohol related incidents.  Coach Peterson stated that Finley was then in a competition with redshirt sophomore Tommy Stuart, true freshman Brett Rypien and redshirt freshman Alex Ogle throughout training camp.
