Sometimes in the NBA Draft there is a disconnect between players’ skills and their potential. This primer gives an idea of what players are now, and what they could grow into beyond their rookie years. NBA Ready Skills, are skills that the player already possesses and will be able to bring to an NBA team from Day One. Probable NBA Skills, are attributes that players have a direct path of adding to their games. These skills become achievable in 75% of the outcomes for the player they are assigned. Potential NBA Skills, are skills that the player has shown flashes of in their games. These can be seen as a 50-50 outcome. Problem Areas are potential weaknesses that could keep this player off the floor in the NBA. Now that’s not to say that these players can’t turn those weaknesses into strengths, it’s just unlikely that they’ll do so.
