2017 NFL Preseason Power Rankings (25-32)

(32) New York Jets:

Best move this offseason: Improving the secondary by drafting Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye

Worst move this offseason: Letting go of veteran talent (Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and David Harris)

Did they get better?: No, even though it appears that they are building for the future, they have lost many talented veterans and are still the Brooklyn Nets of the NFL.

Speculation for 2017: The Jets are at rock bottom right now and they will have one of the worst quarterback situations in football but they are taking small steps to get better and I feel that they will have a chance to have a great a young secondary in a few seasons. Expect them to be competing only for a high draft pick this upcoming season.

(31) Chicago Bears:

Best Move this offseason: Letting Alshon Jeffery walk

Worst Move this offseason: Giving Mike Glennon an absurd contract

Did they get better?: No, they are about the same as they were last season and their only hope for this upcoming season is if Mitchell Trubisky or Mike Glennon can be semi-competent.

Speculation for 2017: The Bears are trapped in a very talented division and I don’t see them competing for the NFC North crown for a long time, expect Glennon to win the starting job but don’t be surprised if Mitchell Trubisky gets significant play time later in the year.

(30) Cleveland Browns:

Best Move this offseason: Improving the offensive line by signing J.C. Tretter and Kevin Zeitler.

Worst Move this offseason: Letting Terrelle Pryor walk.

Did they get better? Yes, their offensive line and pass rush has been improved significantly this past offseason and they are slowly building up their other units before drafting a quarterback that will hopefully put an end to this.

Speculation for 2017: Cleveland should improve on their 1-15 record this upcoming season and I think Myles Garrett is the favorite to win DROY this year, the quarterback situation is still a mess and they will probably have at least three different quarterbacks start for them this season (Cody Kessler, Deshone Kizer, and Brock Osweiler).

(29) Buffalo Bills:

Best Move this offseason: Hiring a new regime.

Worst Move this offseason: Letting Stephon Gilmore and Mike Gillislee leave for a division rival.

Did they get better?: No, they let talented players leave for New England and they had didn’t improve their team much at the same time. They made a smart decision by signing Micah Hyde but he is not in the same league as Stephon Gilmore, I also feel like they should have kept Mike Gillislee as insurance in case Shady McCoy gets hurt.

Speculation for 2017: The Bills will be a mediocre team once again but they at least have a fresh start with a new head coach and general manager, if their offensive weapons stay healthy I could see Tyrod Taylor improving from his 2016 performance.

(28) San Francisco 49ers:

Best move this offseason: Hiring Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch.

Worst move this offseason: Signing Pierre Garcon

Did they get better?: Yes, I think San Francisco had one of the best offseasons in football and in my opinion the best draft.

Speculation for 2017: The 49ers made two great hires this past season and they look destined for a great future, expect Brian Hoyer to be the starting quarterback and expect the defense to make big improvements. They should win 3-5 games.

(27) Los Angeles Rams:

Best move this offseason: Hiring Sean McVay.

Worst move this offseason: Signing Robert Woods.

Did they get better?: Yes, the Rams now have a great offensive mind that will hopefully help Jared Goff turn into a solid starter someday. Also, the Rams will have more stability on the offensive line by bringing in Andrew Whitworth.

Speculation for 2017: The L.A. Rams were dysfunctional last season but they seem more stable headed into this upcoming season, expect Jared Goff to improve from last season and expect Todd Gurley to return to an elite level. The main worry that the Rams should have these next few months is making sure they can extend Aaron Donald.

(26) Washington Redskins:

Best move this offseason: Drafting Samaje Perine.

Worst move this offseason: Not giving Kirk Cousins a long-term contract.

Did they get better?: No, I like the selections of Jonathan Allen and Samaje Perine but they lost two of their top receivers in DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.

Speculation for 2017: The Redskins play in one of football’s best divisions but they are not a reason for that, they made a major mistake by not giving Kirk Cousins a long-term contract and as a result, they could lose him next offseason. They are one of football’s most dysfunctional organizations.

(25) Jacksonville Jaguars:

Best move this offseason: Drafting Leonard Fournette.

Worst move this offseason: Not bringing back Jonathan Cyprien.

Did they get better? Yes, I love the signing of Calais Campbell and I think he will immediately impact their pass rush. The selection of Leonard Fournette will take pressure off Blake Bortles and if Fournette stays healthy I could see him making a strong case for OROY.

Speculation for 2017: Jacksonville should have an improved defense with Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye coming in, also Jalen Ramsey and Myles Jack have a chance to become true difference makers this upcoming season. Expect Blake Bortles to put up better numbers with an improved supporting cast.
