Ahmmon Richards looks to be one of the more exciting wide receiver prospects in this draft.
Ahmmon Richards is a good route runner. He brings good size with that route running ability. He is tall and is an aggressive blocker. For his size, Richards has good speed. He stands in a 6’1 and weighs 205 pounds. He showed on tape that he can be a good yards-after-the-catch receiver and that is unusual for a big receiver. He uses his size to win 50-50 balls almost like a tight end. Richards is also capable of making the acrobatic catch. This size is also used well to get separation at the line of scrimmage. Richards succeeded early in his career at Miami including as a freshman and was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He is overall a good athlete and it was demonstrated by seeing him hurdle over a defensive back in an ACC game. He also has the toe drag down near sidelines.
A problem I see in Richards game is the drops. I also don’t think he will be a major burner at the next level. He will have to rely on good footwork in his route running. Richards is also coming off of a knee surgery and so the hope is that he can return to his freshman form.
Overall, I see Richards becoming a number one receiver in Mark Richt‘s offense. I think he can carry that leadership to a good year and become a first-round draft pick after this Junior season. Teams will like his size and that he can gain separation in his route running.
