The thing to like about Clelin Ferrell is the way that he can win with so many different moves. He has a natural bend and a decent dip for his size. I like that he can win with a rip move, especially against better linemen. He also features a nice swim move. His last move that I like is his spin move. The only pass rush move that concerns me is his bull rush. Ferrell has a long frame at 6’5 and that helps him have the size to play the edge. I like his first step although he is not a burner on his first step. Ferrell is competent in stunts and was asked to do that a lot at Clemson. In the run game, he fills his gap assignments.
The weakness that I see in Ferrell’s game is his power. I mentioned the weakness in the bull rush. I think he needs to use better leverage. He plays a bit upright and that is understandable because he is tall. I would like to see him play with better strength against the run and use his hand fighting abilities to get off blocks better in the run game.
I see Clelin Ferrell as a top 10 pick in this draft. He is a guy who can get after the quarterback. I think his best fit is as a 4-3 defensive end. He looks like he is going to have another successful 2018 in Clemson’s stout defensive line.
