2019 NFL Draft Profile: Damien Harris

Harris is a running back that hits the hole hard. He is able to follow blocks well and has decent vision for a runner. He is very much a straight line runner. Harris has shown the ability to catch out of the backfield and he shines when running in space. This is because of his speed. He has better play speed than he does timed speed. I bet he doesn’t time as well at the combine, but still has the production you want from a running back. His strength is running in short bursts. As far as after contact, Harris has shown a spin move and toughness to take a hit considering he isn’t a bigger back. I also found Alabama’s offense to be comprehensive and that tells me that he will be able to adjust to an NFL playbook well. I also find him to be an articulate speaker in interviews.

The problem I see for Harris is that his production is a bit overstated by a very good Alabama offensive line. The question I have with Harris is how he will do against NFL competition where his line is not consistently better every week. I also think he is not very elusive for a smaller back.

Overall, I see Harris as a first rounder in the NFL. I think he gets his name called in the second half of the first round. I look for him to have a good year as the primary back for Alabama. He is now one of the veterans on a very good Alabama team.
