Fant is a stud move tight end. He is tall, standing in at 6’5 and plays just as tall. He is also fast for a tight end. He is an advanced receiver that can take the top off of a defense. He is also a decent in-line blocker. He is versatile enough that he can line up in-line or out in the slot. His best position is in the slot though where he can take advantage of his size against slot corners and safeties. I think he is too big for safeties and too fast for linebackers.
The weakness I see in Fant’s game is his blocking technique. I would like to see him get lower although that is difficult with a long frame. I also see drops as a problem in Fant’s game. A team will want him to be more sure-handed for him to really be a matchup nightmare.
Fant is a first-rounder and will probably drop to the second half of the first round because he is a tight end. I would compare his receiving skills to Evan Engram and his blocking to David Njoku as prospects. This makes him stand out as an Iowa tight end as they are traditionally not move tight ends. Iowa is known for good tight ends, but Fant is in a different mold.
