New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis sent a reminder to the rest of the NBA that he is still a force of nature.
During the Pelicans game against the Denver Nuggets, Davis recorded one of the most video-game like stat lines in NBA history, going for 50 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 steals, and 4 blocks in 41 minutes.
In doing so, Davis became the first player in NBA history to post at least 45 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in a single game. That ignores the fact that he blew past some of those numbers.
He also became just the fourth player in NBA history to drop 50 on opening night. The others? You may have heard of a couple of these guys — Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.
The Pelicans star managed to score half a hundred without the benefit of playing with New Orleans two best playmakers — Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans.
Davis finished the game 17-34 from the field and the Pelicans still managed to lose to the Nuggets 107-102.
Tim Frazier was the next leading scorer for New Orleans, scoring 15 points and handing out 11 assists.
Jusuf Nurkic led the way for the Nuggets with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Will Barton scored 22 and pulled down 5 rebounds, while inefficient point guard Emmanuel Mudiay scored 11 points on 2-8 shooting, recorded 7 rebounds and handed out just 3 assists.
