Today, we will take a look at James Washington. James Washington is a deep threat that almost always wins when he has one on one coverage. He does not have blazing speed, nor did he light up the combine with his 40 time. He does, however, have good play speed and that helps him get separation. He is also willing to go over the middle and makes a bunch of catches that way. He was very productive in the Big Twelve conference. He is also a smart player who can improvise his routes. He is a decent athlete with good balance which will help him in his route running. Washington was also used on gadget plays which shows that the Oklahoma State Cowboys wanted to get him the ball.
His biggest weakness is his route tree. He can be a good route runner but has not had to at Oklahoma State. His speed is also a concern. As I mentioned before, he may have play speed, but I don’t know if he will be a burner in the NFL. He is a decent athlete, but he is also kind of choppy in his approach. He needs to develop more fluidity is his route running and movement after the catch. I also did not notice a lot of yards after the catch from James Washington.
James Washington is probably a late-first or second round pick depending on which team wants to take a wide receiver fourth. I think he is a good possession receiver in the NFL, but not a star player. He will probably be drafted after clear first-round talents like Calvin Ridley, Christain Kirk, and Courtland Sutton. I don’t see him as a special teamer day one, but I think he gets on the field early because he is a reliable target.
