Miami Beach H.S. center Zach Brown
If you thought Connecticut was going to take a break after landing one of the nation’s top 2016 recruiting classes, you would be mistaken. The school learned today that Zach Brown, a top 2017 recruit, has committed to UConn.
The 7-1, 260+ pound Brown is either a 5 or a 4-star recruit, depending on who you listen to.
ESPN.com ranks Brown as the #25 player in the 2017 class, 247 Sports ranks him at #20, Yahoo! has him at #17 and Scout.com has him at #26.
As we’re talking about a player who combines elite size with rapidly improving skill, once it’s all said and done, I believe he’ll end up being a top 10 player in the 2017 class.
Brown, who attended the UConn/Tulane game at the XL Center on Tuesday night, his 2nd visit to UConn, was clearly about to make his choice. He unleashed a huge smile when he told reporters, “I’m close to making my decision.”
Brown is UConn’s first commitment for the 2017 class.
As mentioned previously, their 2016 class is a special one, 247 Sports ranks them as the fifth best class in the country. It includes Miller Grove High School point guard Alterique Gilbert (#4 PG), Tampa Preparatory School power forward Juwan Durham (#8 PF), Prolific Prep small forward Vance Jackson (#13 SF) and Putnam Science Academy PF Mamadou Diarra (#22 PF).
