Potters House Christian (Florida) center Udoka Azubuike announced last night that he’s committed to play for the Kansas Jayhawks.
The 6-11 / 275 pound 5-star center from Jacksonville is the #22 player in the 2016 class, as per ESPN.
A tremendous athlete who plays above the rim, rebounds and protects the basket, Azubuike is the type of player that coach Bill Self has done very well with over the years.
He is averaging 18.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game for the 2015-16 season.
Azubuike is the second Top 100 player to commit to the Jayhawks for 2016, joining 4-star power forward Mitchell Lightfoot (No. 64) out of Gilbert Christian High School in Arizona. Lightfoot ranks as the #64 player in the 16′ class.
What made Kansas the right school for Azubuike?
“This was a very tough decision, but I fell in love with the team when I saw them play,” Azubuike told ESPN. “I was very comfortable with coach Bill Self, assistant coach Norm Roberts and the entire coaching staff on my visit.”
The Jayhawks may potentially need an influx of talent up front as they will lose forward’s Perry Ellis and Jamari Traylor for certain as well as forward Cheick Diallo, who could elect to turn pro despite a somewhat disappointing season.
The addition of Azubuike pushes Kansas into the Top 15 classes overall and that number could still jump significantly as they remain in pursuit of players like Thon Maker (International/unranked), Josh Jackson (No. 3), Jarrett Allen (No. 19) and Marques Bolden (No. 20).
