USMNT vs. Peru: Player Ratings

Brad Guzan- Guzan didn’t have much to do in this one, and didn’t have much of a chance on Peru’s goal. He did get saved by the crossbar late in the match when he was beaten though, so that takes away from his grade.

Rating: 6

Reggie Cannon- The FC Dallas right back was impressive in his US debut, playing well defensively and linking up well with his US teammates. Expect the 20 year-old to get more chances with the US moving forward.

Rating: 7.5

Cameron Carter-Vickers- The Tottenham loanee (currently with Swansea City) was solid in this one, displaying good positioning and his renowned athleticism. Carter-Vickers is making a case to be the 3rd Center back for the US, and will certainly get more chances moving forward.

Rating: 7

Aaron Long- Also making his US debut was New York Red Bulls Center back Aaron Long. Long has caught the eye of interim manager Dave Sarachan after a breakout season with the Red Bulls, and he didn’t disappoint in his first match with the national team. Long worked well with Cameron Carter-Vickers as they made things difficult for Peruvian attackers. Though he may not be a fixture moving forward, Long provides an intriguing depth option.

Ben Sweat- Many were surprised when the NYCFC full back was included in this roster, but with the lack of depth for the US at full back, Sweat was given a chance. However, Sweat was poor, and at 27, doesn’t really fit into the picture for the US moving forward.

Rating: 4

Wil Trapp- Once though to the future in the midfield, Trapp has been surpassed by younger, better options, but was still given a chance against Peru with Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie not in camp. After a poor performance against Brazil, Trapp performed similarly poorly against Peru, and seems to be slipping down the depth chart.

Rating: 4.5

Marky Delgado- The Toronto FC midfielder was another surprise inclusion in the US XI in the midst of a forgettable season with his club. Delgado was OK, but didn’t really do anything to leave his mark and show that he deserves more chnces.

Rating: 5

Kellyn Acosta- The Colorado Rapids midfielder performed well against Peru, as the 23 year-old tries to make his case to be preferred over guys like Trapp and Delgado moving forward.

Rating: 7.5

Timothy Weah- The PSG attacker had some dangerous moments in this one, but was unable to get on the score sheet. Weah is raw, but he still looks to be the future for the US, along with guys like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Josh Sargent.

Rating: 6.5

Jonathan Amon- The pacey 18 year-old winger also made his US debut in this one. His speed was certainly on display as he tested the Peruvian defense, but he does need to make some better decisions on when to lay it off and when to go for goal. Overall, a very promising debut.

Rating: 7

Josh Sargent (Man of the Match)- The Werder Bremen striker was looking to create for most of this one, constantly trying to find teammates in space with his back to goal. Eventually though, Sargent scored himself by putting away a pass from Kellyn Acosta on a set piece.
