Darryl Morsell commits to Maryland

Darryl Morsell has committed to play at Maryland

Mount Saint Joseph’s guard Darryl Morsell has committed to Maryland.

The four-star guard ranks as the #79 player in the 2017 class by 247 Sports, #60 by Rivals, and #93 by Rivals.

He ranks as a four-star prospect by ESPN but falls just outside of their top 100.

Morsell picks Maryland over offers from Dayton, Notre Dame, Villanova, and Virginia Tech.

The 6-4, 200-pound shooting guard from Baltimore is an attacking guard who goes to the rim aggressively who has shown the ability to bully smaller players in the paint.

Right now this is a power player with the rest of his game being something of a projection.  Morsell won’t be ready to make a big impact right away.  His shooting and ball-handling skills are both serious works in progress.

With all that said, there’s a lot to like here and it’s easy to get excited about the player he could become.

Here’s what Morsell said about the decision:

“I like the relationship I have with head coach Mark Turgeon and assistant coach Bino Ranson,” Morsell told Pat Lawless of madehoops.com in August. “I’ve gotten to learn a lot about their program and I’m happy to have a strong relationship with them.”

He becomes the second member of Maryland’s 2017 class, joining center Bruno Fernando.
