A look at N.C. State WR Kelvin Harmon.
Kelvin Harmon fit the bill as a good possession receiver. The trait that stands out about him is his route running. I also liked that he is a good blocker that is aggressive in his approach. His strength is intermediate routes. He is also able to improvise on routes because he is a smart player. Harmon is sneaky fast and will sneak by corners for a deep ball. He also adds the ability to make the back shoulder catch on deep routes. Harmon shows good hands at times and has some potential with 50-50 balls. He will have no problem getting jammed at the line of scrimmage as well. I liked his interview. He seems to have a very logical approach to how he perceives the game.
Harmon is not a guy who will light up the combine with speed. He is decently tall at 6’3 but won’t wow you with his height. I do worry about him being a body catcher. He needs to catch with his hands out in front of him and when he does that he is successful. Another weakness I see in his game is that he won’t be an explosive YAC guy. He does give effort on his runs though.
Overall, I think Harmon will come out this year as a junior because he is a polished receiver. His traits don’t wow you, but he is a very solid football player that will be a successful possession receiver in the NFL. I don’t see what coming back for his senior season will do for his draft stock. I see him as an early second round pick who could contribute right away as an outside receiver.
