Week 9: NCAA Football Top 10

Another week passes and Alabama remains at the top.

(1) Alabama Crimson Tide: Last Week’s Result: Beat Tennessee 45-7

Why They’re Here: At this point, there really isn’t even an argument who the number one team in college football is. Alabama continues to destroy their SEC counterparts and they are in my opinion heavy favorites to win the national championship right now.

(2) Penn State Nittany Lions: Last Week’s Result: Beat Michigan 42-13

Why They’re Here: Penn State survived one of their toughest challenges of the season with an incredible performance on both sides of the ball against Michigan. They could lock up a spot in the college football playoff if they beat Ohio State this week but that may be easier said than done.

(3) Georgia Bulldogs: Last Week’s Result: BYE

Why They’re Here: Georgia’s offense has been incredible this season and Nick Chubb is an absolute stud who could get drafted very high in April. Expect them to hammer Florida this week.

(4) Ohio State Buckeyes: Last Week’s Result: BYE

Why They’re Here: So far I have talked primarily about offense but Ohio State’s defense has been one of the best in the nation this season and if they can knock off Penn State this week (I think they can) they will easily crack the top three.

(5) Clemson Tigers: Last Week’s Result: BYE

Why They’re Here: I knocked Clemson down after they were upset in the Carrier Dome by Syracuse but I am going to cut them some slack and back them back up after watching Syracuse almost beat Miami (Syracuse is much better than I thought). I am very excited to see them face Georgia Tech which should be a very exciting game.

(6) TCU Horned Frogs: Last Week’s Result: Beat Kansas 43-0

Why They’re Here: The fact that TCU is outside of my top five just show’s you how talented the top five is. They demolished Kansas on national television and it’s probably not a good idea to put Kansas football on national television. Have their upcoming games against Texas and Oklahoma circled on your calendars.

(7) Oklahoma Sooners: Last Week’s Result: Beat Kansas State 42-35

Why They’re Here: Oklahoma faced a close call last week against Kansas State but I am still going to keep them in my top ten. They face an interesting matchup this week against Texas Tech’s air raid offense and I am interested in seeing how that secondary holds up against Kliff Kingsbury’s and Nic Shimonek offense.

(8) Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Last Week’s Result: Beat USC 49-14

Why They’re Here: The Fighting Irish have been a big surprise to me this season and Brian Kelly deserves to be considered for coach of the year this season. I have been very impressed with their star quarterback Brandon Wimbush this season and DeShone Kizer has to be kicking himself for leaving this Notre Dame team for the NFL (I don’t know about you but I would rather be playing for a college football playoff contender than get benched in favor of Cody Kessler).

(9) Wisconsin Badgers: Last Week’s Result: Beat Maryland 38-13

Why They’re Here: Wisconsin has been quietly a major force in the Big Ten this season and they could be even higher on this list by the end of the season if they win out (they have a decent chance too).

(10) Miami Hurricanes: Last Week’s Result: Beat Syracuse 27-19

Why They’re Here: They faced a close call last week against Syracuse but I think that is more on the incredible performance that Eric Dungey had than the Miami defense. Malik Rosier has been an absolute beast this season. Brad Kaaya like Deshone Kizer has to be kicking himself for not staying in school (I would rather play for a college football playoff contender than get waived by Detroit). It almost makes you think that maybe Sam Darnold should stay in school instead of going to the winless Cleveland Browns.
