Blackhawks and Bruins 2019 Winter Classic

The Blackhawks and Bruins will play in the 2019 Winter Classic.

Tuesday afternoon news broke, thanks to Barstool Chief, that the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins will face off in the 2019 Winter Classic under the watchful eye of Touchdown Jesus at the University of Notre Dame.

Can’t wait!

And in case you can’t hold your excitement all the way until 2019, the 2018 match-up is the Rangers and Sabres at Citi Field.

The Winter Classic is one of my favorite sports events of the year, and if it’s not one of yours, you are just not having enough fun in life. You get throwback sweaters, guys slip-sliding around as snow falls from the sky, it’s beautiful chaos. If you’re watching the Cotton Bowl on January 1st each year instead I just feel bad for you.

Side note: I was at the 2014 game when Chicago played Pittsburgh in Soldier Field and I am not sure if I have ever had that much fun while being that cold all at the same time (shout out to Buffalo Trace for help on keeping me at least a little warm). My Hawks topped my brother’s Penguins 5-1 as I laughed in his face at each goal in the midst of a complete blizzard. You literally could not see the puck. The only way you knew a team scored is that you saw the players arms go up in the air. If I had a picture to share I would, but between the snow, lights, and it being a night game, any picture you took on your phone came out completely black or white, ironic for such a picturesque event.

The Blackhawks have played in a total of 5 outdoor games since 2009 (2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) while the Bruins have stepped on the ice in 2 (2010, 2016       ). And in case you are wondering, yes 5 is more than any other team in the NHL. There are 4 teams who have made 4 appearances: Red Wings, Canadiens, Rangers (if you count 2018), and the aforementioned Penguins.

Keep an eye out for my preview article coming in about 13 and one-half months.

But for now the only question is, will either of the team’s helmets be gold?
