USMNT vs Portugal Match Preview

It has been just over a month since the US National Team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer. Today, the US will face Portugal in Portugal in their first match since the embarrassment that took place in Trinidad & Tobago and have selected a roster with a focus on young talent. Interim US manager Dave Sarachan’s roster has a few vets mixed in, but showcases youth for the most part.

The roster includes bright, young talents like Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Josh Sargent, and Cameron Carter-Vickers just to name a few, so US fans will get to see how the highly-touted young talent can perform with the senior team. A starting XI is really anyone’s guess, but with subs available (as is standard for friendlies), US fans should be able to see all the young talents make at least a brief appearance. Portugal is without their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo but make no mistake, this is a hungry young Portugal squad with a ton of talent, and they present a very formidable test for this new-look US squad.

Here’s the Starting XI that I would go with for today’s match:

GK: Horvath

LB: Lichaj

CB:Miazga

CB: Brooks

RB: Yedlin

LM: Rowe

CM: McKennie

CM: Adams

RM: Bedoya

ST: Dwyer

ST: Agudelo
