Virtus Pro has obviously fallen off their high 2016 pedestal. Despite being considered as one of the favorites as we head into the new year, they have not been able to replicate their aggressive gameplay in 2017. The surprising aggressive gameplay was the biggest advantage that Virtus Pro had over other teams. With that element missing from their game they have not been able to surprise other teams. The results speak for themselves.
The tournament was faced with several technical difficulties right from the beginning. With Computers not being ready to Valve servers playing spoilsport for the eSports athletes; the event left a bad experience for viewers. Despite it being 2017, the organizers definitely needed to be better prepared for the delays.
The grand final was one of the longest matches of Dota ever played. The time was helped by the huge delays caused for external factors.
EG and OG were the winners of their respective Quarterfinal matches. Both the teams faced close Best of three series against Faceless and Invictus Gaming respectively. With the Boston Major in the past and the recently formed new rosters bonding together; this period in Dota2 is considered as a transition phase for the most part. Teams are still figuring out their strategies and tactics. Bonding within the team is considered to be extremely important in order to get the composition and mentality right for the Kiev Major.
The two teams met each other in the Winnerś finals. EG trounced OG in the Winnerś semi-finals. The first game saw an insane gameplay by EGś Enigma as he got the entire enemy team disabled in his Blackhole. The second match was equally impressive by Chenś dramatic micro-management. His usage of his assets after his character died brought precious positional advantage for the team and gave his team a huge advantage.
The finals were closely contested by the two teams. EG were able to win the finals 3-2 in the end and they won the majority of the Prize pool. With a positive start to 2017, EG definitely are looking forth to a bright future.
