Eric Mika Scouting Report

Measurables: 6’10”, 6’10”, 232 lbs, 22.3 years old

Strengths

  • Nice little flashes of faceup game
  • Draws a ton of fouls and converts – 77% FTs
  • Crafty post-up game, solid against length
  • Establishes position inside well
  • Nice post footwork
  • Not afraid of contact even with average size/length
  • Cleans glass – that usually translates
  • Smart player on defense – knows where to be and gets vertical defending shots. Helps him deal with average size/athleticism
  • Very efficiency scorer in WCC
  • Good motor, gives teams trouble

Weaknesses

  • Already 22
  • Size of a PF, plays like a C
  • Lacks physicality in post defense
  • Doesn’t really have an NBA type game on offense
  • Needs to add a lot of strength to consistently play center
  • Doesn’t show lateral quickness
  • Got into foul trouble against more talented frontcourts (4 fouls against Gonzaga, St. Mary’s)
  • Hard to peg a really translatable NBA skill – rebounding is good but not great
  • 53% FG – not exactly eye-popping
  • Poor mid range game

Overall

  • Mika flashed some talent this season putting up big numbers in the WCC, but he looks more like a good college player than an NBA player. He doesn’t really have a translatable skill, especially given his lack of size in playing the 5. He really struggled to show off his midrange shot at the combine which bodes poorly for his offensive game going forward. He’s probably headed for 2 more years of high-level college production and a nice career in Europe, which isn’t bad, but he doesn’t really seem like he’s an NBA guy.
