Klay Thompson returns to defend his crown.
The 3-point Contest is the co-main event on All-Star Saturday night.Last year saw the two Splash Brothers Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry go head-to-head in the final for the second straight year, with Thompson coming out victorious over defending champion Curry with 27 points. With Curry passing on this year’s contest let’s look at the other participants:
The reigning champ will be given a run for his money this year with the other contestants but we all know how good he can be from deep when he gets hot.
The 2013 three-point contest winner isn’t particularly known to be deep marksman but he can be deadly (just ask Steph Curry). He’s shooting almost 40% from deep this year although not his best it’s a step up from last season.
This shows just how far Walker has developed, in his first four seasons he struggled with the 3-ball shooting below 33%.Now he’s known as one of the deadliest shooters in the league.
Matthews is participating in his second 3-point Contest, the first since his Achilles injury in 2015.He is having another solid year shooting from deep at 38%.
Swaggy P is quietly having one of his best seasons with the Lakers this year, he’s currently making almost three shots from deep a game at a stout 42%.
Gordon is leading the Houston Rockets in threes this year and has been healthy all year. The surprisingly stellar Rockets team has been taking the league by storm and definitely deserve a player in the contest this year.
Lowry is participating in his second 3-point Contest, he represented Toronto in its All-Star hosting last year but was eliminated in the first round. He currently has 162 3’s second in the league to Curry.
McCollum was the first player to accept the invitation for the contest and rightfully so, he’s one of the league’s best spot-up shooter. He’ll be looking to enact revenge after his embarrassing first round exit last year, finishing with just 14 points and an air ball.
