In what can only be described as incredible news for the NFL and the Oakland Raiders, the deals are done — Marshawn Lynch is now an Oakland Raider.
The Seattle Seahawks traded Lynch and a sixth round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to the Oakland Raiders for a fifth-round selection.
Lynch then agreed to a revised two-year contract with the Raiders.
The 31-year-old running back will make a base salary of $3 million this year, with the chance to earn another $2 million in incentives should he rush for 1,000 or more yards.
The total deal can be worth up to $8.5 million.
Interestingly, this is slightly more than the $8.25 million that is available in the two-year contract that Adrian Peterson signed with the New Orleans Saints earlier this week.
Lynch isn’t just happy to have this over with, he’s happy to be home.
“Yes Lawd 12th man I’m thankful but [expletive] just got REAL I had hella fun in Seattle,” Lynch wrote on Twitter shortly before NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz saw him at the Raiders’ team facility Wednesday morning. “But I’m really from Oakland doe like really really really from Oakland doe… town bizzness breath on me.”
Derek Carr, the face of the Raiders franchise, is thrilled to have Lynch joining the team.
“I think it would be awesome just to have him around,” quarterback Derek Carr told NFL Network’s Steve Wyche two weeks ago. “He’s a great teammate from everyone that I’ve talked to from the couple of Seahawks that we’ve had on our team. They love him.”
There is one more minor technicality that has to take place before Lynch can suit up for the Raiders, he needs to officially file the papers to unretire.
The star running back retired from the NFL following a 2015 season where he played in just 7 games, carrying the ball 111 times for just 417 yards and 3 scores.
