Arizona State RB Kalen Ballage Ties NCAA TD Record

Kalen Ballage made NFL scouts take notice with his performance tonight.

It’s been a decidedly offense-skewing NCAA season so far.  Thursday night, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson set a record with 610 total yards of offense.  Not to be outdone, Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage set a record of his own Saturday night.

The 6-2, 227-pound junior running back tied the All-Time NCAA record for most touchdowns in a single-game, with 8.

On the night, Ballage carried the ball 13 times for 137 yards and 7 touchdowns. while also catching 2 passes for 48 yards and another score.

Your math is correct, Kalen Ballage touched the ball 15 times on offense and scored 8 touchdowns.

For the record, Ballage had just 4 touchdowns all of last season and coming into the game he had 10 carries for 56 yards and one score.

Not one to hog the spotlight, Ballage praised his offensive line after the game.

“They blocked their asses off for me tonight,” Ballage said.

The 8 touchdowns propelled the Sun Devils to a 68-55 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Ballage tied the record previously held by Illinois running back Howard Griffith, which he set in 1990.

Was Ballage aware of the record during the game?

“I wasn’t paying attention to that at all,” Ballage said. “I want to win a football game. I don’t care if I score one touchdown or 20. It doesn’t matter. As long as we win, I’m fine with it.”
