Last week I talked about the NBA post-season awards, and how it’s way too early to really predict who’s going to win what. With that in mind, I decided to create awards that could be won on a weekly basis, kind of like “Player of the Week”. This week, we’ll be looking at games from November 5th to November 12th.
Ben Simmons is our NBA Rookie of the Week.
MVP of the Week: James Harden
Through four games this week, Harden is averaging 38.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 12.2 assists, 2.2 steals, and shot 50% from the field. Past years have often had Harden being overlooked for MVP, maybe this year is finally the year he’ll get noticed.
Rookie of the Week: Ben Simmons
Even though the 76er’s only played three times this week, Ben Simmons continues to put up consistent numbers. In the three games, he averaged 15.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 2.3 steals, and shot 47% from the field.
MEP of the Week: Kyrie Irving
MEP stands for Most Entertaining Player of the week. I feel like there are plenty of players who are extremely entertaining to watch, but not necessarily their team’s Most Valuable Player. This week’s MEP is Kyrie Irving. Watching Kyrie Irving dribble a basketball never gets old, especially when he can do this and this and this and oh did I mention this?
What If? Play of the Week:
Stephen Curry to Draymond Green
Pass of the Week:
Nikola Jokic tip pass to Will Barton
Hustle Play of the Week:
Patty Mills stopping the fastbreak bucket.
Bad Luck of the Week: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Props to KCP’s defense, but he’s probably the first player to ever get crossed up and dunked on in the same possession.
What other weekly awards would you want to see?
