Linsanity is returning to New York.
Free agent point guard Jeremy Lin has agreed to the deal to join the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets have given Lin a 3-year contract worth $36 million. All and all, this is a good contract for the Nets given the inflated value of free agents in a post new-tv deal world.
The steady, 27-year-old guard averaged 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over 26.3 minutes per game in one season with the Hornets. Lin actually signed a 2-year deal with Charlotte, but it contained an opt-out clause following the first year.
This move reunites Jeremy Lin with Nets coach Kenny Atkinson, who was his assistant coach in New York when Linsanity began.
Lin has been effusive with his praise of Atkinson, giving him a lot of credit for his development.
We knew the Nets were looking to move quickly to sign a point guard with Rajon Rondo and Brandon Jennings also being linked to the team. After this move they have about $40 million left to add players to the team.
Here’s Lin’s tweet from today which broke the story:
