Even E’Twaun doesn’t quite understand what’s going on.
The New Orleans Pelicans have taken this crazy day of NBA free agency to another level.
The team has agreed to terms with forward Solomon Hill (4-year, $52 million) and guard E’Twaun Moore (4-year, $34 million).
Let’s meet the newest Pelicans:
Solomon Hill is a 25-year-old, 6-7 small forward. He’s a free agent because the Indiana Pacers decided not to pick up a $2.3M option on his rookie deal. Hill averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds a game for the Pacers last season. In fairness, he did average 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds a game during the 2014-2015 season. Hill has started in fewer than half of the NBA games he’s played in.
He got fifty-two million dollars over four years.
The same player who Indiana could have kept for $2.3 million, but opted not to.
E’Twaun Moore 27-year-old, 6-4 shooting guard. Moore averaged 7.5 points and 2.3 rebounds a game for the Chicago Bulls last season. He did connect on 45% of his three-pointers last season. So that’s something.
Moore received thirty-four million dollars over four years.
If we combine the two players, we get a guy who averaged 11.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 36.1 minutes a night and Pelicans basically paid that guy $86 million.
It’ll be interesting to jump ahead 6 months and see which team wins the sweepstakes when Anthony Davis demands a trade.
