Down one point, with no timeouts, things looked bleak for the Memphis Grizzlies against the Denver Nuggets.
Vince Carter, the NBA’s oldest active player, inbounded the ball and tossed a perfectly placed lob to Marc Gasol.
Gasol miraculously tipped the ball in over the defense of Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay to give Memphis a 108-107 win.
Carter talked about the play following the game:
“I had progressions, I had a couple of options, but I just had to be patient while still keeping the 5-second violation in mind,” Carter said. “It’s a stressful situation, but I’ve been in it before. I know how to relax and take my time.”
“The play was executed to perfection,” Carter said. “I just wanted to put it up there where only Marc could get it and let him take care of the rest.”
Gasol had this to say about the play:
“The guy guarding the inbounds pass jumped too early,” Gasol said. “That opened up the passing angle and Vince made a great pass.”
Carter led Memphis in scoring with 20 while Gasol added 19.
Emmanuel Mudiay was the leading scorer for the Nuggets with 23 points and 7 assists.
Here’s Gasol’s buzzer-beater.
