Are the Golden Knights for real?
David Perron roofed a bullet in overtime last night to give the Golden Knights the win and move them to 5-1-0 to start the 2017 season. This is something no one saw coming, and if you did, bite your cheek and stop lying to me.
The Golden Knights have been the Cinderella story of the early parts of this season. Despite McDavid netting a game 1 hat-trick followed by Ovechkin’s 7 goals in his first two games, the Golden Knights have continued to impress us all.
I mean, this is a team composed of players GMs didn’t mind losing. That’s saying a lot.
Are you buying it? It’s hard not to at this current time at least. Whether they can keep up this remarkable pace is unlikely, but boy is it a fun story to watch.
From the tragic and senseless shooting to the impressive home-opener win, there have been countless layers to this streak the Golden Knights have put together.
Perron maybe said it best when he insinuated last night after scoring the overtime winner that the team has come together so well because they’re all playing with a chip on their shoulder due to being exposed by the former respective teams earlier this year. It makes sense. As a player you want to prove to all those GMs they made the wrong choice letting you go, and that can definitely fuel a player.
But is that enough to keep this team running and gunning for 82 games? I guess we’ll have to find out. I’m thinking there will be a natural regression back towards the .500 area. But no one can argue it’s been a great story to watch unfold.
