Blake Barnett is set to transfer away from Alabama.
Redshirt freshman Blake Barnett began the month as the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He ends the month searching out a new school to play for after losing his starting spot to fellow freshman Jalen Hurts.
Barnett held down the #1 spot for just two series, before being replaced by Hurts.
This makes Barnett the fourth quarterback to transfer from Alabama since 2014, joining Parker McLeod, Luke Del Rio and Alec Morris.
He’s played in three of Oklahoma’s first four games. For the season the quarterback is 11-19 for 219 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. He’s been sacked four times while posting a quarterback rating of 189.5.
There should be no shortage of programs interested in adding him to the fold.
Barnett was the #21 overall prospect in the 2015 recruiting class.
Coming out of Santiago High School in Corona, California, Barnett picked Alabama over offers from schools such as Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and West Virginia.
It’s worth pointing out that the redshirt freshman is engaged to professional surfer Maddie Peterson, which could lead to Barnett picking a school on the West Coast.
UCLA could be an interesting option. Barnett would be forced to sit out next season and could then take over the starting position when/if Josh Rosen leaves from the NFL following his junior season.
His departure likely means that junior Cooper Bateman will now be the Tide’s backup quarterback.
