Blazers match offer sheet for Allen Crabbe

Allen Crabbe will have to settle for going after 6th man of the year.

In a fairly surprising turn of events, the Portland Trailblazers have elected to match the offer sheet that shooting guard Allen Crabbe recently signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

The contract Crabbe signed with Brooklyn was a four-year, $75 million deal that could reach $83 million.

It includes a player option for year 4 and a trade kicker.

This has to be bitter-sweet for Crabbe.  On one hand, he gets to stick with a rising team in the West where he had a breakout season this year.  On the other hand, Crabbe is now permanently stuck behind the trio of Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, and newly-signed wing Evan Turner in Portland, whereas he was assured a starting spot and prominent role with the rebuilding Nets.

Well, there’s always that 6th man of the year award to aspire to.

Crabbe averaged 10.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for the Blazers in 26.0 minutes per game while shooting 39.3% from long range.

This could be a bad day for the Nets as chatter is getting louder and louder that the Miami Heat could match the team’s offer sheet to Tyler Johnson prior to the 11:59 PM deadline tonight.
