The addition of Chandler Parsons could propel Memphis nearer to the top of the Western Conference.
A few days ago, word broke that Chandler Parsons was almost certainly leaving the Mavericks.
Today, he’s gone.
Parsons and the Memphis Grizzlies have come to terms on a four-year maximum contract worth $94.8 million.
Here’s what Parsons had to say about his decision to ESPN:
“I really believed in Coach Fiz. Nobody in the league has coached better wings than him. I trust J.B. with my life. They have nobody like me, and their veteran, experienced players are a perfect fit with me.
Memphis beat out the Portland Trailblazers for his services. Portland, like Memphis, offered Parsons a max contract.
The 27-year-old small forward averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 61 games last season but it’s worth pointing out that those statistics were negatively impacted by a strict minutes restrictions early on.
“Toughest decision of my life though. Portland is incredible,”
The Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic also showed interest in Parsons, who left Dallas after spending two seasons with the Mavericks when the team didn’t offer him a max deal.
Here’s a tweet from Parson earlier in the day.
I want to thank @mcuban , the entire staff, teammates and fans for everything the past 2 seasons. I love you and wish you the best of luck!
