If this was to be Cole Hamels’ last start with the Phillies, he certainly went out in style.
Hamels threw his first career no-hitter of his career in a 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Â Interestingly, the Cubs are one of the team’s believed to be most interested in Hamels as the trade deadline nears.
In addition to the no-no, Hamels made history in another way.  The Cubs had the longest streak of not being no-hit in major-league history — 7,920 games and nearly 50 years. Not since Hall of Fame left-hander Sandy Koufax on Sept. 9, 1965 had the Cubs gone without a hit.
The Cincinnati Reds now have the longest streak at 7,026 games.
Hamels struck out 13 and walked two, needing 129 pitches to seal the deal.
This is the 11th no-hitter in Phillies history and the fourth of which was caught by starting catcher Carlos Ruiz.
There was a scary moment in the 8th inning when David Ross nearly broke up the no-hitter, but the wind knocked down his fall ball and Odubel Herrera made a nice play to record the out.
