A potential McGregor/Mayweather fight is looking more and more likely by the day.
There has always been one obstacle seemingly standing in the way of the potential “The Notorious” Conor McGregor (21-3 UFC Lightweight Champion) and Boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather (49-0) and that obstacle is the UFC.
McGregor is a contractually obligated employee of the UFC. However his boss Dana White came out yesterday and said he does think this will happen. What was once a joke and fantasy situation is now being anticipated as real by the President of the UFC. Why does he see it that way? One reason….money, and the money behind this fight would be astronomical.
Floyd Mayweather is already one of the most well documented rich athletes of all time, and Conor McGregor is looking to move into that spot with this fight. There is an issue though with McGregor’s future following this fight. The rumors have swirled for well over a year regarding this matchup and they continue to fan the flames of the biggest face in MMA taking on one of the all-time greats in boxing history.
The even crazier part is that another rumor floating around is that the T-Mobile arena was holding a date in early June for this event. There is no way this will happen that quickly, unfortunately.
This has already been a pretty long process, to begin with, but to expect this fight to happen in just a mere 3 months seems a bit outrageous.
However it is interesting to see Dana White start to change his tune from this fight will never happen to it basically being inevitable. The UFC is in a weird spot and its biggest star is going to box in 2017, and possible never fight inside the Octagon again. Stay tuned everybody because something tells me this is happening much sooner rather than later
