We’ve talked before about the insane talent level of the 2016 high school class and it’s living up to the hype during the live periods this summer.
One player in particular who is making a strong case to make a huge jump in the next round of rankings is Texas senior-to-be point De’Aaron Fox.  The point guard class is perhaps the deepest position in the 2016 pool with players like Dennis Smith Jr, Kobi Simmons, Lorenzo Ball, Frank Jackson and Alterique Gilbert all in the mix.
However, Fox is making a strong case as the class’s premiere player at the position.
At 6-4, he possesses elite athleticism and is generally regarded to be the top defender in the class, at any position. Â The main knocks on De’Aaron Fox heading into the year were that he was something of a combo guard and that he lacked a consistent outside shot. Â He’s spent all summer easing concerns about both of those.
In a recent game against Arizona Power Black, Fox scored 35 points, including made threes.
“It was spectacular,â€
Fox said after the game.
“I’ve done it before, but it’s nothing to get my head up about. When you’re a competitor when you go off, it’s just normal at this point.â€
We know a couple things for sure. Â 1) The Texas guard does not lack confidence and 2) When new rankings come out, Fox will likely fall into the top 5 overall.
He’s a different kind of guy.
“Not everybody takes pride on defense as much as they do on offense. Playing defense you get a steal and that’s show time for you. I feel like what separates me from other point guards is I play hard all game.â€
At the Nike Peach Jam two weeks ago, Fox told Scout that Arizona, Louisville, Kansas, and Texas were the schools he talked with the most. Following his game on Saturday, Fox told Scout he’s looking to narrow his list soon.
“I want to cut my list in about two weeks,†he said. “I don’t want to give anything away, but everyone will know within two weeks.â€
